Stress is a very common issue which can leave you feeling overwhelmed. There are skills a person can learn to help reduce stress and improve wellbeing.
Stress is the body’s reaction to feeling threatened or under too much mental or emotional pressure.
Signs and symptoms of stress may include sleeping problems, sweating, loss of appetite, headaches and difficulty concentrating. A person may feel anxious, irritable, low in self-esteem, have racing thoughts, worry constantly and/or go over things.
The free ‘Stress control’ programme is held once a week over six weeks for approximately 90 minutes and teaches skills and techniques for managing stress.
Topics include:
- an overview of what stress is;
- controlling the body;
- controlling thoughts;
- controlling actions;
- managing panicky feelings;
- getting a good night’s sleep;
- planning for the future.
Stress control is a class, not ‘group therapy’ – no one has to talk about personal difficulties in front of others.
